Health insurance versus self-pay?

As a patient, it can be frustrating to deal with health insurance. Monthly premiums can be very costly and quickly add up to hundreds of dollars a month. In addition, most patients are signed up for a high deductible health care plan with thousands of dollars to be paid out of pocket BEFORE the insurance will start making payments.
