Tracheal Shave
During the tracheal shave procedure (the correct term is chondrolaryngoplasty), a prominent Adam’s apple, which is part of the laryngeal thyroid cartilage, is carefully reduced and then contoured to give it a more natural female-like appearance.
Many transgender women feel self-conscious about a prominent Adam’s apple. The tracheal shave procedure is therefore one of the most popular gender-affirming feminization surgeries.
This procedure is performed on an outpatient basis by making a small 1-inch incision into a neck crease. The scar typically fades away within several months and becomes barely visible.
